Shirts -VS- No Shirts

On a warm Sunday in May as all the players migrated in for the game it appeared that half of the contestants showed up in 'uniform' while the other half was more casual.

The idea then, since our own Ed Hance showed up with his camera, was to film a team of shirted stickballers playing the non-shirts in the hopes of posting a YouTube video to highlight our contributions to stickball here in the south - South of the Bronzk as Dr. Phil would say. Looked to be a nice scrimmage as the teams looked to be even except for the fact that Bob S. wanted an outfielder so we put Manny on the shirtless team despite him wearing his uniform. This turned out to be a BIG misfortune to the Shirts as he covered the outfield again with some amazing catches. Not to be outdone, the Shirts caught plenty of flies as Phil (especially hot on a liner and a couple pop-ups), Fran, Bob L. (Mr. Snow Cone) and the rest hung on to some great shots too. Not sure of the production salvaged by Ed but Manny would make the highlight reel if we got it ion video. Not to mention some long homers both caught and blasted to the automatic zone!!

The game film would start out a little slow as the first 2 twinnings produced only one run for the Shirts as Bob L produced an RBI single following a Norm Triple as Norm and Bob L. both getting back to fine batting form.

The shirts top of the 5th generating 3 more runs on a Denis triple following a Keith Triple that scored an RBI as well driving in Roger from third (three triples in a row for those keeping count). The 6th inning was similar as Dr. Phil managed his way to 1st and scoring on a Roger Triple who was brought in by a John M. single. John was driven in by a Keith Triple followed by a Norm single to score him. (Sorry Denis but we actually scored 4 not 2 - oops - prompting the quote of the day and most likely the honorable mention). Denis must be getting distracted by all the great designating hitting he's been accomplishing ;-) And he was on the Shirts :-) The inning would have been a real disaster for the No Shirts if not for Manny's incredible one hand grabs saving/robbing a Fran homer that looked to be making its way over his head and nabbing a foul pop-up.

No Shirts finally woke up in their 3rd twinning lead by John W.'s solo homer almost nabbed by Roger who couldn't measure up to Manny's greatness covering the outfield today, though he did rob John of the trifecta on an early inning homer depth fly. However, there could be no doubt about the 6th inning bomb automatic one that all Shirts could do was kiss good-bye as John W. got all of one with bases loaded for the Grand Salami!! Bringing in Steve, Bob S., and Dave Miller who loaded the bases with singles. Cindy hitting the ball well but right to Bob L. covering the middle front line of defense.

Shirts went quietly in the 7th after a Dr. Phil double and the 3 up 3 down. Anti-climactic 7th as the No Shirts reprised the Shirts with a 3 up 3 down inning to end the game. Shirts were just glad John W. didn't get up AGAIN! :-0

Manny and John W sure put on a show

but couldn't overcome triples in a row:
