Gordon so wanted to name the teams this Sunday as he had the marketing
promo item to fit the day. Pay close attention to the items hanging on the bottom right corner of the scoreboard - a giant bagel and a variety locks. Being a long time Bagel maker Gordon was equal to the task. And so it was that the teams gathered 'round' to let the 'chips' fall where they may to play the 'hole' game. We had a good turn out on another beautiful day with a couple of wives as spectators along with a new resident of Max's POD who came out to scope out the action. We got him to try his hand at a few at bats and we hope to see him come back and join us as he appeared to enjoy connecting with the spaldeen.
----- ‘Bagels’ taking on the Locks’ ----
Bagels - Bob S., John W., Mo, Denis (DH), Dave M., Norm
Locks – Bobby (DH), Gordon, Roger, Bob L., Sam, John M. Bill T.
Scorer: Denis performing double duties on the day
The Bagels got on top in the first twinning, posting 2 runs which were unanswered by the Locks who left men stranded in each of their first 2 innings.
The game got cookin' as the Bagels Maxed out their 4th inning with 5 runs. on the flip side the Locks also Maxed out their 4th after having scored 2 in the 4 which brought the score to 7 UP with the Bagels and Locks.
Bagels came back in to post another quick Max 5 runs in the top of the 6th finding some deep holes in the Locks outfield. The Locks finally clamped down in the 6th to hold the Bagels to no runs but could only muster 3 in their third twinning. (2 runs in the original scoring but on further review Sam wasn't credited with an RBI)
Bagels finished the 7th batting around and posting 3 runs leaving the Locks to have to come up with the Max 5 runs. While Locks gare it a valiant try, the Bagels found the key to locking down the last inning as the bases were loaded with 2 outs to allow only 1 run to score. So it was a win but definitely no schmeer.
Defensive plays on fly balls has greatly improved; players getting hands on the balls even catching line drives. We've seen more players getting the ball out to the triple and HR area of late. The front line of defense continues to be the main source of put outs. All the defense improvement is great but it looks like we will need some help improving our pitching. The old 7 pitch or you're out rule we played with a long, long, time ago has definitely been forgotten; but if we hope to compete in FL with the Wycliff Stiffs we have to do better than we have been doin'. Bob L. having a great day at the plate getting a HR over the defense and Gordon on his Bagel day hit for the cycle (to include a fly out and a ground out :-) for 5 RBIs. Our scorekeeper, Denis, continues to excel since coming off the bench as a DH also batting for the cycle and adding an extra triple and single, with 5 RBIs, in a definite MVP performance!
HOME RUNS: Denis, Gordon, Bob L.
TRIPLES: Denis(2), Gordon, Bobby, Gordon, Sam, Mo, Bob S.
DOUBLES: Denis, Gordon, Roger, John W. (2), Bill T. (2), Bobby, Sam, Mo (2)
