Mail Bag - stickball memories
OUR STICKBALL LEAGUE IS VERY SPECIAL TO ME SINCE I CAME TO SUN CITY I ALWAYS WANTED TO BRING OUR YOUTH SPORTS FROM THE NORTH TO THE SOUTH. MAYBE YOU HEARD [ 'YUTES' - MY COUSIN VINNIE ]STICKBALL IS A GAME ANYONE COULD PLAY.
I SEE EVERY GAME THERE IS COMRADERY, RULE CHANGES, HUMOR IN OUR CONTROVERSY DISCUSSIONS AND MOST OF ALL COHESIVENESS WITHIN OUR PLAYERS.
I WANT TO EXPRESS MY DEEPEST APPRECIATION AND ADMIRATION TO A VERY SPECIAL INDIVIDUAL. HE CAME TO KNOW THIS GAME A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. AS HE BEGAN TO ENJOY THE GAME HE WANTED TO CONTRIBUTE IN SO MANY WAYS. BRINGING DOWN THE EQUIPMENT, SETTING UP, LEARNING HOW TO KEEP A SCORE SHEET AND BEING PART OF OUR COMMITTEE MEETINGS 👏. THEN THE SUTPRISE CAME WHEN HE DEVELOPED A BLOG THAT BLEW EVERYONE'S MIND.
IT HAS BEEN AN INSPIRING MOMENT FOR OUR STICKBALL LEAGUE IN WHICH DUE TO MY MAN ROGER GOEHRING OUR TEAM PLAYER, PUBLIC RELATIONS, AND DEDICATED MEMBER, WE ALL WANT TO GIVE A BIG THANK YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE.
OPENING DAY IS MARCH 21ST AT 2:00 P.M. WE WILL HAVE A FLAG CEREMONY, STAR SPANGLED BANNER ACCOMPANIED BY DAVE MILLER AND HIS HORN, PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE AND A MOMENT IF SILENCE FOR THE VICTIMS OF COVID 19. IN ADDITION GORDON FINN HAS A SPECIAL GIFT TO HAND OUT.
I WANT TO DEEPLY THANK EVERYONE ON KEEPING OUR STICKBALL LEAGUE ALIVE AND WELL

And Kudos to all who have contributed equipment like signage from Steve Woods, bat racks from Norm (rev 2.0) especially the sewer cover home plate by Jesse Andrews, and the grounds crew equipment including the net for catching from Carol Burns. Then there are the rules write-ups and cleaning of the balls that Bob Stoakley has been kind enough to contribute.
Roger and Out
I’m one of the newest and most appreciative of all the prior work of setting this up and the continued work in an ongoing effort to fulfill the needs of the addicted stickball enthusiasts .
Thanks to all!

Being from South of the Bronzk I have and will continue to enjoy the Great Game of Stickball. Yes Roger, Max and others have done great job of bringing Stickball to the South but more than the Game the fellowship, laughs, wrong calls miss catching the pink or yellow ball striking out and Homeruns THANKS TO ALL

Times like that make the SCP Stickball group one of a kind.
