So we 'survived' another outing on Paperwhite but not without some controversy showing up on Facebook :-0
With calls to the HOA/Vickey going unanswered or redirected to the sheriff it looks as though no one has called the law on us and we hope that continues as we beg for indulgence as we play and continue to allow traffic to proceed throughout the game. Many have detoured around Little Gem / Camelia with a bit of inconvenience - we've had as many go around as go through I would say. We definitely need to keep the cart path and sidwalk open for bikes, pedestrians, and allow those that wish to go through on the road, do so - this will respect their wishes and NOT BLOCK the road!!! (Park between the gutter and the sidewalk with all vehicles when arriving for the game :-)

The business card shown here is from a spectator who visited Monday, as you can see, he was a sheriff in another life, I heard no talk of what the law would do for us playing in the street, on the contrary, he indicated he and his wife would be interested in partaking of the game. They live on Camelia, backing up to our Paperwhite game and came over to see what was going on. Curious and interested they stayed for some time getting 'beaned' by a Fran HR which bounced off the top of their cart in Automagic land - NICE blast Fran. Roger tried to divert the ball before impact but missed it :-0 The spectators didn't mind at all. So, we have that going for us ...
In answer to the minimal FB traffic, probably equal to the number of cars that passed through our game, we continue to seek patience with us as we continue to coexist with the neighborhood that we did try to alert to the game with a pre-declaration of our intentions. All-in-all I think people just wonder who and what we are about. Answers have been given to focus on the GOOD of the game such that it provides the comradery and competitive outlet for those who don't have a chance at other SCP activities, we incorporate the young, old, athlete and non-athlete and with our no running policy accommodate a great deal of the community that we welcome with open rosters!! Let's continue to stress that mission ...
Now on with Monday's game that saw 17 !! players come out to support the new field of play and have a great time. We had at least one neighbor try his hand at batting as Eddie was thrilled to hit a DOUBLE by connecting with the 'little ball using a skinny bat'!! A new convert joined our ranks as Eileen became our newest participant thrilled to play and ready to enjoy a jersey, she got 2 hits scoring a go-ahead RBI for her team that eventually went on to win the game!! Way to go Eileen!!
Also returning was Bill Baker's wife Charlotte who went 4 for 4 batting 1.000 getting single after single - excellent hitting!! This is what stickball in SCP is all about - fun and participation!!! We love to see new players taking so well to the game to keep our club alive and vibrant. Surveying the crowd of today's players, it seems nearly half are newer players!! We keep evolving new participation ... and speaking of participation, we welcomed our own Bob Stoakley back to the fray as he pitched and covered his 3rd base position as usual, hitting the ball pretty hard but right at Bob Ley or a pop up for POs - WELCOME BACK Bob!!
Manny was the MVP on the day crushing 2 loooooong (230 ft) AUTOMAGIC HRs that needed chasing down to Little Gem!! (Note, our field is only 190 ft long to the auto line ;-) His 8 RBI Day together with Eileen's, Denis's and Fran's helped their team to victory and fit the new format of playing 2 hours instead of just going by innings as suggest by founder Bob Ley ;-) As Gordon says, "the rules are written in etch-a-sketch" :-) This being a game where the playing action is the important part and the points don't matter ...
Denis our beloved scorekeeper and DH did an excellent job for both teams going 8 for 9 overall and batting 1.000 for the winning team :-0 and posting 2 triples, 4 doubles and 2 single - way to go Denis!~! Dani batted .500 with 2 singles to add to the women's contributions and Chuck played some great defense gloving 2 outs on the front line, nearly 3, in one inning! - Manny's low liner nearly took the glove with it, but Chuck did manage to stop it at a single at least!! Great defense for Chuck on the day and he posted 3 singles as well! Rick performed well on the day with a double and 2 singles nearly catching a nice pop fly ... Mark had a nice triple combined with 2 singles. Phil and John contributed a triple and double each to their team's victory slugging while Fran went 4 for 4 with his auto HR and 3 singles batting 1.000 with 3 RBIs for the day. Bill Baker made his single count for an RBI to add to the victory total.
Manny continued to dazzle on defense and lead his team to victory in 5 innings as we celebrated another completed game on the streets of Paperwhite where we hope to continue our existence.
