Batting Practice Continues

Well we did it again, came up short on players and so we took some batting practice but this time we had a couple of coaches giving some great pointers. Coach Debra and Assistant Coach Rick (only assistant 'cause he doubles as a 1st baseman :-) were on hand to give out some great pointers to some of our batters and some other batters picked up on them. Debra is always forthcoming with wisdom on swinging the stick and Rick gave Bo a tip about stepping INTO the ball instead of away (in the bucket as we used to call it) which Roger picked up on when he got up to the plate after throwing some batting practice - relieving Bo who did a great job to start off the day. We only lost a ball to the pond but Roger went back with a golf ball retriever and fished out 10 "decent" balls, some only good for batting practice, but 10 none the less!! Some of them should have been retrieved looooong ago and would have made fine additions to the ball bag :-0
Everyone had a great time and the weather accommodated the event; Fran, John, Sue (who came early and left early ;-) Bill, Alan and players to be named later ;-) enjoyed some fine practice both in the field and at the plate.
Later in the week, Friday night, Fran and Roger went down to Macon to see the Bacon take on an unheralded Summer League rival in Catawba Valley (mascot to be named later?). Fran and Roger taking the opportunity to scout some "college boys" who could run, hit and field and provided a few pointers of their own on hitting - unfortunately the visiting team demonstrated more power on the night as the later innings resulted in a 'MAX 5 run' inning production. A great summer night under the 'turbo' fans was had by all with the Bacon entertainment director providing the most enjoyment that night involving the fans in many, many between inning contests :-) No foul balls caught and no one got hurt :-0 Fran's Church, McDonough Presbyterian, organizing a great outing for fans of the boys of summer - literally as these college prospects put on a show in hopes of recognition and a baseball future!! The inclusion of a Macon Bacon Hat and all you can eat stadium fare with drinks for a mere $20 WELL WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION!!! (And that included the ride down in the church bus ;-) Not to mention it was the retirement of Jackie Robinson's number, 42; Jackie having played in Macon 'back in the day'. All the Bacon players were wearing #42!! Along with auctioning off their jerseys for charity ;-) A recommended trip for any baseball fan :-) Don't forget to try the "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" from the concession stand - 6 ingredients subject to change without notice ;-)
Let's get together this coming Monday and beat the heat, beat the bushes for players, and beat up on the spaldeen on Paperwhite providing SCP with the joy of a REAL game by some old, retired, kids at heart fun loving, of course come one come all Stickballers!!
