We had a great turn out today with some of the best weather of the summer season so far. The clouds kept the sun away and the temperatures were as nice as the visitors we had with us today. In additions to many a spectator we had the Comish's family (Daughter Summer and her husband, John), who both hit the ball well and a young slugger, Braydon, who really dinged the spaldeen. Jay brought along another new player, Adam, who got acquainted with us and the game. Additionally, we're glad to have our newest players, Bill and Chuck continue to enjoy the game.
We were pleasantly surprised by the return of our own Charlie Goldman, one of the founding fathers who pitched a great game for both sides. Great to have you back keeping us straight Charlie.
We welcomed back Phil Dunaway from his stint on the IR list starting the game of with a double and a single and Manny returned from his vacation not having lost any of his talents as he played the outfield with reckless abandon and blasted a few hits for homers and a triple. Bill Trufmuck returned to the fold prior to his going back on the IR for some hand surgery on an injury that continues to plaque his participation. We wish him a speedy recovery.

The game started off with what looked to be very uneven teams (which we have come to expect from Roger's drafts :-) as the visiting - 'Wasted Talent' took a commanding lead on hits that included a 3 RBI blast from the rookie, Braydon, who put on quite a hitting display once he straightened out his power. Their 2nd inning culminating in the Max 5 run rule. The home - 'Smokin' Bases' only generating enough offense to garner a run for their first 'twinning' (two innings for newcomers reading this blog).
The next twinning was another big one for the 'Talent as they blasted 3 homers by Manny, Braydon, and John to max out their 4th inning scoring Bob and Denis who had singles. This after having gotten none in the 3rd and it was looking good for the home team. The 'Bases did battle back a little in their share of the second twinning by scoring 4 in the 4th inning on a triple by Jay that scored Summer, Roger and Bill who had loaded the bases with singles.
The pitching of Charlie finally got the better of the 'Talent as they only scored 2 in their next at bats - Manny Homering in Chuck in the 5th inning followed by some defensive put outs on grounders by the home team to retire the sides.
Still in a deep hole the home 'Bases needed a bunch to get back in the game; while they did score 4 on a Roger Triple with Gene, Gordon, and Summer having loaded the bases followed by Bill B. singling in Roger, they were still 4 runs short of tying the game; leading to them playing their seventh inning to try to play catch-up. Despite a 2 out rally with 2 singles they couldn't get enough momentum to score any runs.
**** FINAL: ‘Waste Not ...’ – 13 (without a 7th inning)
‘Smoke Less' – 9 ****
HOME RUNS: Manny (2), Braydon (2), John (1, and one caught by Roger)
Jay (1, and 2 caught by Manny)
