BACK, BACK, BACK ...

There's going back, back, back for a loooooong Manny Homer (3 of them) and then there's landing on the ground and hurting your back, which isn't supposed to happen in STICKBALL. Mitch in trying to recreate a previous innings one handed grab of a high bouncer to third, wound up on his back - not a pleasant sight. Luckily, he is now recuperating with meds and rest after a doctor's visit. Oh, and Bob Stoakley took a couple for the team, as he tumbled once in the grass in the ground rule area and then his momentum carried him into the foul bushes by third base - Bob also doing well with rest and meds, faring better than Mitch not having fallen on the concrete :-0 An accident filled game we had.

An offensive show of 7 vs 7 and Denis DHing for the home team (Roger forgot to add him to the visiting roster :-0). There were many great defensive plays as fly balls for great hits were nabbed by each team. Newcomer Bo made 2 saves for the home team while Manny continued his dominance of the outfield robbing a few homers and triples along the way (Gordon couldn't buy a break as 3 HR depth balls were aimed at Manny's mitts).

Killer Contact vs Big Bros.

The visiting Killer Contact opened the game with some fireworks as they maxed out 5 runs in the first inning with Norm and Roger triples and 3 singles by Gene, Sue and Bob S. That inning was followed by a 4 run second on singles by Charlotte and Norm which preceded a Sue double and a 3 run Roger HR. The visitors were riding high as they held the home Big Bros. to only 2 runs in there first twinning. Those coming in the first inning off a Bill Baker double and Mitch triple, followed by Manny's single (gladly given up as his HR power would show up in subsequent at bats - and it seemed like he would bat every other batter :-0)

The Killers rested on their laurels, holding out on scoring until the last two innings but the Bros. had ideas of comeback as they posted back to back to back homers in the third as Manny, Mark, and Bo each plastered the ball to deep center for 3 runs and the Bros. followed with 3 more in the fourth on 2 Mitch doubles, a double by Bill Trofemuk , a Denis triple and Fran single. And it didn't end there, they posted 4 more runs in the third twinning as Manny 2 RBI homered (AGAIN), Mark tripled and Denis doubled. This followed by pushing in another run on singles by Manny, Mark, Bo, and Denis making the score 12 Bros. to 10 Killers.

The Killer Contacts finally awakening to their namesake finished the seventh in fine fashion topped off by a Bob Stoakley grand slam after Norm singled, Gene doubled and Sue and Roger singled in runs. This after Norm's high bouncing single left the Bros. without Mitch at third having ended the play on his back in the street ... So the Killers left it to the Bros final at bat with the score at 16 to 12. Even though Many started it off for the Bros. with ANOTHER towering blast HR and then a Bo triple the Killer front line shut down the mighty Bros. offense.

A great see-saw match as usually tends to be the case, with some uncharacteristic injuries, **** FINAL: ‘Killers’ – 16 ‘Brothers' – 13 **** HOME RUNS: Manny (3!), Bob S. (MVP Grand Slam winning RBIs!!),

Mark, Roger, Bo TRIPLES: Norm, Roger (2), Mitch, Bo, Denis DOUBLES: Gene, Bill T. (2), Bill B., Mitch, Denis SINGLES: Norm (4!), Sue (4!), Manny (2), Mark (2), Bo (2), Fran (2), and the rest .... ;-) RBIs: Roger (6!), Bob S. (5!), Sue (3!), Norm, Gene, Sue

Manny (5!), Denis (3!), Mitch, Mark, Bo, Fran Quote of the Day: "OH NO, Another fall ... " Stickball Y'all -
