Wednesday March 3rd Wrap-Up

Updated: Mar 7, 2021

Stickball Enthusiasts,

Max returning to the field as if he never missed a step, the long awaited return from his duties of home care has been well worth the wait – spectators and players were treated to an assortment of talent as Max hit, pitched and fielded the outfield on his way to an MVP performance. Roger was disappointed that he wasn’t on his team as he and Bob S. paired up today’s assortment of teams – looks like a trend, the team that looks good on paper, crumples up like paper on fire as John Mellencamp would say.

We had a great turnout of 11 players as everyone arrived on time, no stragglers to change lineups on the day!! Returning to the fold were our uniform provider, Charlie and our new SCP resident Moe, making it to his first game since completing he move into his house. Both of whom looked like they had been playing all year long, a great outing to be sure! Our illustrious scorer got to bat for both teams and had another fabulous batting average while keeping us straight with keeping the books. Spectators visiting again as our game is attracting a great deal of attention on these fine spring like days – we appreciate the fans coming out to witness our competitions including the banter and comradery, they have seemed to enjoy it. We were even honored again with the presence of the Doctor – Dr. Phil, recuperating from his pickle ball tumble; we were glad to see him out and about. We wish him well, we hope to see you for the opening of the season or shortly thereafter at the very least!!

One “spectator” in particular today was really early, trying to get out the Teamon road exit drove down in the newly formed access to the bridge at Del Webb on the east side only to get stuck. The tow truck trying to extract him also got stuck in the valley of troublesome creek – living up to its reputation!! :-0 Another tow tried to get the first out and that didn’t work too well either. A couple of trucks tried while we played around their efforts, however once the cable/chains came out we abandoned all hope for safeties sake and Charlie christened the game a ‘CHAIN OUT’ after 4.5 innings and our team down by 14 !!! ;-)

The game dancing around tow trucks:

----- ‘Eeenies’ taking on the ‘Meenies’ ----

Eeenies Moe, Max, Denis, Norm, John, Bob “I’m Back” S.

Meenies Charlie (Good Enough for Tuna), Gordon, Manny, Bob L., Roger, Denis (batting for both sides ;-)

Scorer: Denis (all time offense) Euchre

The game start a bit lopsided as the Eeenies were unstoppable with unanswered runs, the Meanies looking anything but their name sake closing inning after inning with NILs!!! The score after 4 reading 13 – 4. The Meenies only highlight was a Denis grand SALAMI in the 4th – thank you Denis! With the Eeneis posting 5 more in the top of the fifth, the Meenies not having a ghost of a chance after one out in the lower half and the tow chains looming around ready to snap, the game was Chained Out … J with the help of Charlie.

Notable defensive plays on both sides as Bob S. played a solid 3rd base landing on the sidewalk (again) as he ranged left and sidewalk right while hitting a whale of a HR – he appears to be his OLD self again. Now stay off the sidewalk Bob :-0. We don’t need a longer DL than we have already with Phil and Doug G. The Eenies outfield of Max and Max thwarted all but one long ball attempt as Max’s eyes saw the ball well after his long hiatus.

HOME RUNS: Denis (1 Grand Slam + 1 robbed by Max), Norm off of Roger’s finger tips running out Willie Mays style to the automatic line, Max (welcome back 2), Bob S. (rocket shot), Manny (lead off solo shot in a futile comeback in the bottom of the fifth)

TRIPLES: Roger stranded at third L struggling Meenies

DOUBLES: Moe plus numerous singles going 6/7 at the plate!! (welcome back), John, Denis (2), Gordon

SINGLES: Mostly Eenies !!! ;-) Max batting 1.000 swinging a strong bat in his comeback appearance!! John hitting the ball hard with 2 singles and 2 F.O. as the Meenies did manage a few stellar fielding plays to combat hits.

**** FINAL (4.5 innings): ‘Mighty Moe’ 1111118,

‘teenie weenie’ one Grand Slam + HR

Saved by the ‘Chain Out’ …. ****

Quote of the Day – “Make Way, Here comes another Tow Truck!!!”

Honorable mention: “We like the orange balls, we’re 10 ahead” - Max
